The Heroes are coming!

Dear children (and parents please take note!),

It is with great anticipation and joy that I can reveal to you that we have some new children joining the school.

I am most excited by this, as they are no ordinary children. They tell me they are heroes with special powers. They wanted me to keep this a secret and never use their powers, but I had a better idea.

I told them, if they stood up for the Hayward’s Code and used their powers to help others, then they could become…

The Hayward’s Heroes!

Now, the only problem seems to be that they are a little shy. So, I am planning a special day on Friday to try and encourage them to reveal themselves.

With that in mind, all children are allowed to dress as a hero for the day. This can be a super hero, a fictional (made-up) hero like Harry Potter or Hermione, or a hero from real life like a soldier or nurse. In fact, it can be anyone that you look up to and admire for the good qualities they have or the good that they do (even your mum counts!) There will be a prize for the class that makes the best effort.

In addition, we are encouraging everyone to be a hero themselves by supporting Children in Need. Would all families please consider sending in a donation of £1 per family.
There will also be biscuits on sale at break for 50p each, with proceeds also going to Children in Need.

We have some other special events planned for Friday, as we really want to find out more about these Heroes and the Hayward’s Code! Look out for ‘breaking news’, check the blog, and see if you can spot them around the school!

Let me know what you think!

Book week 2012 by Scarlett R and Emily B

Last week was book week and the whole school enjoyed lots of activities to do with books. Also whilst in an assembly last Monday our head teacher, Mr Hitchcock received a phone call to say that this box (which had been in the school for a few days) was opened and the thing in it had escaped so Mr Hitchcock ran out of assembly very shocked. After a few minutes Mr Hitchcock came back with his shirt torn and tattered. He sent us out of assembly and into our class rooms. About 10 minutes later he came into our class and asked us to help him find whatever was in the box. We searched along the corridor and in the radio 7 room but we couldn’t find anything. After that we checked in the hall behind the curtain and to our surprise there was a (fake) dragon sleeping.

Also we had some very funny people come into the school to do drama with us and they were called Rob Pudner, Dexter  and Sophie. They rehearsed the first part of a book the years 5 and 6 have been learning about. We performed it to the parents and we hope that they enjoyed it.

Another thing that happened in book week was book swap where we brought in books that we didn’t want at home anymore and we swapped them with books that other people brought in.

After all that excitement we had fun in having a non-uniform day where we could come in as a book character or in whatever we liked.

This a picture of people collecting their books from book swap.

Book week 2012 by Ellie S Jessica S

Last week our whole  school went in to the hall for book swap.  Mostly every one  brought books in and we swapped them with other ones t0 read to ourselves or to your parent.  I got to choose 5  and I chose animal ones………………….The next day we were in assembly and Mr Hitchcock got a call on his mobile phone.  He went in to his office and he got at attacked by a hot  fire bursting dragon. He came in the dinner hall all ripped and one of his shoes got eaten and he looked scruffy.  Everyone laughed at him because it was hilarious and we went back to class and the little kids were scared  and at the end we went on a dragon hunt.  It was all about our new book challenge which  has a dragon badge.
