Super Sunday at Exeter Chiefs

What a Sunday!

This week 40 children from Hayward’s were lucky enough to enjoy Super Sunday at Exeter Chiefs for their game against Bordeaux.

Despite the lingering mist, we had a long, but brilliant training session with lots of fun activities with the Chiefs, including a backstage tour of the facilities and changing rooms and lots of landing on tackle shields.

After this the children were the guard of honour as the teams ran out onto the pitch!

As if that wasn’t enough, we also got to walk around the pitch at half time (in the fog) with spectators cheering us on. What a privilege and experience. Shame about the end result in terms of the game.

As usual, the children were a credit to the school and their families and were praised by the Chiefs.

Maybe in the future they might be running out to play on the pitch!

6 Nations Tag

On Tuesday, we (Wales) visited our friends at Brampford Speake (Ireland) for some tag rugby fun.

We won the first game 6-4 and lost the second 9-7. Our whole team were a credit to the school, showing great sportsmanship and teamwork.

Special praise should be given to our younger trio of Josh, Callum and Ryan who played exceptionally well against much bigger opposition. Well done to Callum for scoring on his debut too.

We look forward to our next game at home to Thorverton (France) next Thursday afternoon.

Keep up the good work guys.

Yours in rugby

Mr B

Football - Hayward's Vs Landscore - 3/12/2015

The Hayward’s Y5 and 6 football team played Landscore last Wednesday. It was the first game between the two teams this year and both sets of players were very keen to get their season off to a winning start. The first team’s game was very competitive, Landscore took an early lead through a well worked freekick. Hayward’s levelled the score just before half time with a great goal from Charlie. The second half was even more competitive, neither team gave away possession easily. Unfortunately for Hayward’s, Landscore nicked a second goal. Towards the end of the game Landscore survived some intense Hayward’s pressure and they held  onto their lead;  Landscore won the game 2-1. The second team game was equally hard fought. James M had a brilliant game in defence and Rhiley  scored a cracking goal. There will be another game after Christmas at Hayward’s which Mr Bamber is looking forward to!

This Girl Can - Week Three

this-girl-can

This week at ‘This Girl Can’ we played tennis, but we found it pretty hard so we turned it into Volley Ball, with a cool beach ball! It was awesome.

It was fun but it made us all exhausted! We played Queen of the court where the winner stays on. It was great because we got to work in different teams. The experience was brilliant. We want more girls to come the the club, everyone is welcome, but you have to be a girl!

After Half term we’ve got a proper dance teacher coming in to teach us some street dancing, we’re all looking forward to it.

This Girl Can - A new club

This_Girl_Can_Logo_RGB_BlackWednesdays 3:30 – 4:30 open to all the girls in years four, five and six.

This week we started a new club called this girl can. It’s a sports club for girls. It’s in the school  hall or the field depending on the weather. Any girls in  Y4, Y5 and Y6 can come.  We do sports and dance and any other fun activities that we suggest to Mr Bamber. It’s on Wednesdays 3:30 – 4:30. We’re  trying to prove that girls are the equivalent to boys in sport. We hope that we can attract more girls to come and join the fun. PLEASE COME. IT IS FUN!!

Swimming Gala

The Hayward’s swimming team had a brilliant swimming gala! Overall, the team came second out of 12 schools. Everyone swam brilliantly, especially Thanushri, Joe Douglas and Melissa Gould who won their races and Sophie Wyer who came second in her’s. The medley relay team also won their race by the narrowest of margins (Tommy Grinney, Joe Douglas, Thanushri M and Melissa Gould) , which help the team to hold onto the second place overall.  Well done to all the swimmers who took part (Toby Rook, Luke Stone, Alex Marks, Joe Douglas, Tommy Grinney, Khrish M, Sophie Wyer , Naomi Smith, Zoe Howsley, Melissa Gould and Beth Prosser).
