The whole school is getting ready to take part in this exciting challenge –
Schools throughout Devon are competing to see who spends the most time reading each day. The winners will receive £1.000 to spend on library equipment, books or perhaps to create a new reading corner for their school.
For one week – Wednesday 22nd to Wednesday 29th June – everyone will keep a note of the minutes they spend reading: at home, in class, reading alone or in a group, or even being read to –
every minute counts!
You will be given a bookmark on which to record the number of minutes you spend reading each day, and each class will have a chart to show the total minutes each day. You can help your teachers add up the class totals and this will be entered on the Challenge’s website each day.
We are all going to have a practice run this Friday, 27th June, just to get used to keeping track of the time we spend reading. Friday’s minutes will not count in the final totals but should help us get ready for the challenge!
Let’s see if we can help towards a grand total of
ONE MILLION MINUTES ENJOYING OUR READING
and maybe win a prize for our school!
