How to help your child at home...saying the sounds

At Hayward's, we use the Read Write Inc phonics programme to help your child recognise single letter sounds.

We give children a hook to learn the sounds by using pictures in the same shape as the letter and a rhyme to help them remember it. This means the children learn to read and write the sounds easily.

When children learn sounds we use the sound of the letter not the letter name.

This video helps you to know how to say the sounds in the 'pure way' without adding extra sounds on the end that may confuse your child.
