8: Yellow Storybooks

The children learn more of the Set 3 sounds: reading and spelling them. They continue to learn to read Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 green words (words which can be sounded out), building speed. They read red words (words with tricky sounds within them), and to be able to do this speedily. They read nonsense words and spell using Fred Fingers (focusing on Set 2 and Set 3 sounds).

To progress to the next group, children need to be able to  read a passage at 60-70 words per minute, attempting intonation to show comprehension.
