9: Blue Storybooks
The children practise the Set 3 sounds: reading them speedily and spelling them (including ea oi a-e i-e o-e u-e). They continue to learn to read Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 green words (words which can be sounded out), building speed. They read red words (words with tricky sounds within them), and to be able to do this speedily. They read nonsense words and spell using Fred Fingers (focusing on Set 2 and Set 3 sounds).
To be ready for the next group, the children need to be able to read a passage at 70-80 words per minute, attempting intonation to show comprehension.
