Art
The children at Hayward's are passionate about their art.
Each child in KS1 and KS2 has their own Art Journal, which is personal to them. Every term, we look at a new artist or movement and create responses to this in our journals.
Every other year, we have the opportunity to put our work on display in the hall as part of the Take One Picture Art Gallery. In Summer 2021, our focus was Georges Seurat and his painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. Take a look at the photographs below which show you the range of responses children came up with across the school.
OUR INTENT
-
We want to expose our children to a range of famous artists.
-
We want our children to see real, high-quality artwork.
-
We want our children to have the opportunity to meet and experience the work of local artists. We want our children to see real life artists at first-hand and to hear them talk about their art.
-
We want all children to have an opportunity to be an artist and have their work displayed in a gallery such as through the ‘Take One’ picture project run by the National Gallery.
-
We want our children to realise their potential as an artist and have opportunities to develop their skills in a range of genres.
-
We want our children to be passionate about their art – to be critical about art that they see and to be able to talk about art that inspires them and grabs their attention. We want our children to be able to describe the type of artwork that they love and to explain why.
-
We want our children to realise that, through art, they have an excellent opportunity to communicate their inner thoughts and feelings through a range of media.
-
We want our children to have the opportunity to use their creativity and imagination; pupils design artwork that solves real and relevant problems.
-
We want children to have the confidence to evaluate and discuss their own (and others’) work. We want children to have an extended critical vocabulary that enables them to understand and describe the different qualities of their own and others’ achievements.
-
We want them to develop the confidence to recognise when something is not good enough and to develop the resilience needed to go back and improve.
